The Gas Concord is a 57,000-dwt (80,000 cbm) VLGC which transports liquid propane
and butane - collectively known as liquefied petroleum gas or LPG - on the spot
market. The 224-m long Gas Concord was built in 1976 by Kawasaki Heavy Industries
in Kobe, Japan. The tanker scored a year-high record for VLGC charters in 2005
when she was fixed at a rate of close to US$60 per ton.
In October 2005, Compass Energy was awarded a contract by ConocoPhillips
Indonesia Inc. Ltd. to provide an LPG-FSO for the Belanak oil and gas development
in West Natuna Block B, Indonesia.
Current Status:
Under the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract, Gas Concord has completed her
conversion into an LPG-FSO at the ST Marine Shipyard and was delivered to the Belanak Field in Feb 2007. Thereafter,
Compass Energy will proceed to operate the unit on behalf of ConocoPhillips. The
Belanak LPG-FSO will be only one of a handful of ship-based LPG storage units in
the world and the second FSO operated by Compass Energy in Indonesia.
